Prediction of in-hospital mortality and admission to ICU using vital signs - a study of Early Warning Score as an alternative to traditional triage
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Triage of patients in the Emergency Department includes scoring of vital parameters. The objective of this study was to compare two such triage systems for assessing vital parameters a single-parameter system, T-vital, as used in Danish Emergency Process Triage, and a multiple-parameter system, T-EWS, which we based on Early Warning Score (EWS) and correlate the triage scores to in-hospital mortality and admission to ICU. Studies examining EWS in triage are currently limited in number.

Early prediction of COVID-19 mortality risk based on demographic, vital sign and blood test
Background: Early prediction of the outcome situation of COVID-19 patients can decrease mortality risk by assuring efficient resource allocation and treatment planning. This study introduces a very accurate and fast system for the prediction of COVID-19 outcomes using demographic, vital signs, and laboratory blood test data. Methods: In this analytic study, which is done from May 2020 to June ...

OBJECTIVE Rapid response team activation criteria were created using expert opinion and have demonstrated variable accuracy in previous studies. We developed a cardiac arrest risk triage score to predict cardiac arrest and compared it to the Modified Early Warning Score, a commonly cited rapid response team activation criterion. DESIGN A retrospective cohort study. SETTING An academic medic...
متن کاملAbnormal vital signs are strong predictors for intensive care unit admission and in-hospital mortality in adults triaged in the emergency department - a prospective cohort study
BACKGROUND Assessment and treatment of the acutely ill patient have improved by introducing systematic assessment and accelerated protocols for specific patient groups. Triage systems are widely used, but few studies have investigated the ability of the triage systems in predicting outcome in the unselected acute population. The aim of this study was to quantify the association between the main...
متن کاملLongitudinal analysis of one million vital signs in patients in an academic medical center.
BACKGROUND Recognition of critically abnormal vital signs has been used to identify critically ill patients for activation of rapid response teams. Most studies have only analyzed vital signs obtained at the time of admission. The intent of this study was to examine the association of critical vital signs occurring at any time during the hospitalization with mortality. METHODS All vital sign ...

Early Warning Score Systems assign scores to a patient’s vital signs to detect adverse events in order to secure timely medical response. However, most systems do not account for variations in vital signs due to aging changes or sex differences, which affects the accuracy of current systems for different deteriorating patient sub-groups. We aimed to develop an Ageand Sex-Based Early Warning Sco...
